Timo der Weduwen (the Netherlands, 1962)
FoLP™ Programme Director
Timo's unique blend of extensive practical experience in international crisis management and a foundational background in education makes him a highly effective facilitator and trainer. Holding a bachelor's degree in education, he understands the principles of effective learning and applies them rigorously in all his professional endeavors.
His career began with the Netherlands Police in 1987, graduating as a police inspector from the Netherlands Police Academy in 1991. Progressing through increasingly challenging roles in Utrecht and Amsterdam, dealing with community policing, public order, organized crime, and hostage negotiations, he was appointed Police Commissioner and Managing Director of the Police Academy in Amsterdam and The Hague in 2001. This experience solidified his understanding of adult learning and the importance of competency-based training, which he later applied in global contexts.
Throughout his tenure with the Netherlands Police, Timo addressed numerous critical incidents, specializing in civil unrest, mass public events, crisis interventions, and kidnapping incidents. In 1996, he earned certification from the UK National Hostage Negotiation Programme, becoming a seasoned negotiator. His experience extended beyond national borders when he served with EU missions in North-Macedonia and Ukraine, and later with the United Nations.
As a security advisor in Israel, Palestine, and Somalia, and a security risk management director in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Gaza, and the West Bank, Timo consistently leveraged his educational background to develop and deliver impactful training programs. Notably, as Chief of Training for the UN security organization UNDSS, he led a global initiative, designing and implementing specialized learning programs in security management, hostage incident management, and crisis management. His focus on competency-based learning ensured that participants not only gained theoretical knowledge but also developed practical skills essential for high-stakes situations.
Timo’s expertise as a facilitator is rooted in his ability to translate complex concepts into actionable strategies. He excels at creating engaging and interactive learning environments, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills. His commitment to continuous improvement and his ability to adapt training methodologies to diverse audiences have made him a sought-after facilitator in the field of crisis management.
Since joining Prosectra in 2018, he serves as the Programme Director of the Critical Incident Management Programme CIMP™ and the Kidnap for Ransom Incident Management Programme KRIM™. He continues to apply his educational expertise and facilitation skills to support organizations worldwide in managing crises, critical incidents, and kidnapping incidents. Timo resides in Sweden with his family, bringing his unique blend of educational insight and practical experience to every engagement.
